May Elshamy is an Egyptian painter, was born in Marburg, West Germany. Lived and raised in Cairo since age 4. Her family are musicians, so she was raised between artistic family. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 2008. She studied fashion Design and received her Diploma at the Instituto di Moda Burgo in 2009. May also studied at “Barcelona Atelier” focusing on portrait studies using pencil and oil paints.
She participated in numerous group exhibitions including Youth Salon Cairo in 2011, Tache Art Gallery and Le Souk Gallery in 2012, Hanager Gallery in 2013 at the Opera House, Artabitta in 2015 and Arcade Gallery in 2018 and 2019.
Early 2018 her first solo exhibition took place at Arcade Gallery in Maadi. She presented a cycle of 18 artefacts, which she produced over a period of two years, between 2015 and 2017.
She also teaches sketching, basics of drawing and painting at different Art centers in Cairo.
